Tactical Gear Australia FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes tactical gear actually worth buying? The materials tell you everything look for heavy-duty nylon, mil-spec fabrics, and reinforced stitching at the stress points. I've field-tested the gear we stock, so if it's on the site, it's held up. Check reviews, but pay attention to who's leaving them feedback from blokes in uniform means more than a rating from someone who took it camping once.

How do I find decent tactical gear without blowing the budget? Affordable doesn't mean junk it means knowing what to prioritise. Look for multi-purpose items that earn their weight, watch for sales, and don't buy gear you'll only use once. If you're not sure what's worth spending on versus where you can save, just give me a call. That's what I'm here for.

The gear I'm looking at doesn't have much storage. What do I do? Go compact and modular from the start. Smaller, MOLLE-compatible pouches and organisers will get more out of any rig than a bigger bag with poor layout. Think about what you actually need with you versus what can stay at the vehicle or base, which halves the problem before you even start packing.

Can I customise my gear? Absolutely that's half the point of going modular. Most of the kit we carry supports patch additions, MOLLE attachments, and accessory stacking. If fit or configuration is something you're working through, give me a ring, and we'll sort it out properly rather than guessing.

How do I get sizing right when buying online? Use the sizing charts, but don't just measure; think about what you'll be wearing underneath. Boots especially: if you're wearing thick socks or orthotics, size up. I get more calls about boot sizing than anything else, so if you're unsure, call me before you order. No dramas it saves us both time on returns.

What should I look for in waterproof gear? At minimum, you want a DWR coating; for serious wet-weather use, look for a proper waterproof membrane. Don't take "water-resistant" at face value test it yourself before you rely on it in the field. We only stock gear that performs in Australian conditions, but I'll always tell you what something is genuinely rated for versus what it'll handle day-to-day.

Where do I find niche or specialist tactical items? Specialty online stores are your best bet and we carry items you won't find in general outdoors shops because we're sourcing for a specific audience. Tactical and EDC forums are also solid for recommendations from people who've actually used the gear. If you can't find what you're after on the site, reach out I may be able to point you in the right direction.

Is there eco-friendly tactical gear available? Some brands are making genuine efforts on sustainability, and we're keeping an eye on it. Honestly, the most practical green approach with tactical gear is buying once and buying well a quality piece that lasts ten years does a lot less damage than cheap kit that gets replaced every season.

How do I learn to use tactical gear properly? Get hands-on wherever you can: courses, range days, unit training. There's no substitute for using gear in the environment it's designed for. For the kit we stock, I'm happy to walk you through what I know from field use. If you're new to a particular category, ask before you buy.

Will gear from different brands work together? Usually, yes, if you're working within MOLLE-compatible systems, but it's not guaranteed. The safest bet is to build around one system or check compatibility before you commit. When in doubt, reach out. I'd rather help you get it right than have you end up with a rig that doesn't work together.
